The LAI, founded in 1970, is an interdisciplinary center that brings together seven disciplines in research and teaching on Latin America.
All the seven disciplines at the Institute are involved in the research-oriented
Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Latin American Studies.

The International Research Training Group "Between Spaces" promotes PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in Berlin/Potsdam and Mexico.
"desiguALdades.net" is an interdisciplinary, international and multi-institutional research network on social inequality in Latin America.
The Institute for Latin American Studies is one of the initiators of
"University Meets Microfinance" (UMM).
The joint project MISEAL will develop sustainable measures that will promote social inclusion and equal opportunities in Latin American universities.
