The projects of doctoral students in Cultural and Social Anthropology contribute to the mainareas of study which include visual and media anthropology, anthropology of migration, anthropology of religion, transatlantic interrelations, urban anthropology as well as ethno- and sociolinguistics. The Ph.D. students from Germany, Europe and Latin America meet regularly during the semester at the disciplinary research colloquium (every Tuesday between 4 and 6pm). The area of Cultural and Social Anthropology supervises doctoral projects and theses as part of the International Research Training Group “Between Spaces. Movements, Actors and Representations of Globalization” as well as desiguALdades.net - Competence Network “Interdependent Inequalities in Latin America” and the interdisciplinary Brazil Research Center of the LAI.
