is an interdisciplinary, international, and multi-institutional research network focusing on social inequalities in Latin America. It is supported by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF, German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) in the frame of its area studies funding. The network analyzes entangled social inequalities not confined to the geographical boundaries of a single nation state.

The Institute for Latin American Studies (LAI) of the Freie Universität Berlin and the Ibero-American Institute of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (IAI) are the directing institutions of the research. Additional partners are the German Development Institute (GDI) and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA).

Prof. Dr. Marianne Braig is one of the spokespersons of the network. Political science at the Institute for Latin American Studies contributes to the network within the research area socio-political dimensions of social inequalities.
