Doctoral Projects

Doctoral projects make an important contribution to the research profile of the Political Science Department at the Institute for Latin American Studies. For academic supervision, doctoral candidates may choose among Prof. Dr. Marianne Braig (political science and sociology), Prof. Dr. Günther Maihold (political science) and Dr. Martha Zapata (sociology). In addition to the obligatory doctoral colloquiums, doctoral candidates are supported individually and within the framework of structured doctoral programs. It is possible to write the doctoral thesis in German or, upon request, in English or Spanish, and to conduct the defense in English or Spanish.

The structured doctoral programs belong to the doctoral program “Latin American Studies from a Comparative and Transregional Perspective”, which is supervised by the Dahlem Research School (DRS) of FU Berlin. Admission to the
