"Undo punishment / build teachers: notions of experience and training in prisons"

Supervisor: Dr. María Isabel Belausteguigoitia Rius (UNAM)

My research aims: to analyze the experience and tension of teachers and prison; from the meaning and redefinitions of its educational work, considering the implications that has led to criminal law reform school space in prisons. The assumption that labor is that following the rigorization penalty observed in the increase of years in the sentence of prisoners, increased deposits and withdrawal of benefits, the educational practice of teachers has I trastocado.

The teacher, on the other hand, does its work within the framework of a new stage of social disruption and violence. They have changed the characteristics of the confined population and the perception people have of the educational area within prisons as referred to by the teachers during the interviews I conducted them during visits to prisons.

Some of the tensions experienced by teachers at this stage are: the establishment of a new type of prisoner, the invisibility and cracking of her figure, the assimilation of these prisoners, constant criticism of prisoners by lack of knowledge, passivity, rigidity and monotony in their practices.

Experience, voices, tensions, needs and changes in prison teachers, actors of education in prisons, is of great relevance to the context of violence that exists in these and in our country. Questions like: What makes 'teachers time the' pass it in confinement ?, have had teachers to do some personal travel, professional, labor to continue its work everyday ?, How do they avoid the effects of prisonization? Questions that seek to answer in this investigation.

It is a qualitative research, framed from critical pedagogy and pedagogies spiral arising from the combination of the fields of visual culture and cultural studies and gender. Strategies to collect information used: observation during visits to prisons, depth interviews and the implementation and completion of a seminar-workshop monthly, this in order that it is the teachers themselves who analyze their practice.
