Ximena Alba Villalever defended her dissertation in Cultural Anthropology on June 15th, 2017. Her doctoral thesis, with the title “Drafting alternative spaces of globalisation. Chinese women in Mexican popular markets”, examines from an intersectional perspective the production of alternative processes of globalisation that are built from a diversity of spaces of strife. The work focuses on the participation of Chinese migrant women working in Mexican popular markets as importers, intermediaries or vendors of commodities made in China; it is centred on the everyday practices of these women, which are carried out as much within their localities as through the distances, and on the ways in which their transnational experiences result in new forms of globalisation.
