Module A3: Latin America in Global History

Competence aims:

  • knowledge of the history of Latin America as well as approaches to global history by means of chosen topic areas
  • knowledge of the assessment of the state of research on a historical inquiry as well as the evaluation and interpretation of relevant source inventory on this
  • ability to classify various methodological approaches, in particular those of transnational and comparative history, and to apply them to empirical case studies
  • ability to independently research bearing in mind research debates and individual epistemic interests, i.e. develop historical queries, select adequate analytical perspectives, develop an autonomous argument, and explain and present the process and results of the completed research

Learning content:

  • conveyance of an overview of a partial epoch or a topic area in the history of Latin America in the context of the current state of research
  • analysis, evaluation and interpretation of relevant source inventories, the comprehensive assessment of the state of research on a particular topic as well as the implementation of a small research project
  • mastery of presentation techniques and the composition of academic texts (reviews, term paper)
