Friedrich Katz Dissertation Prize
Promoting the careers of young scholars is one of LAI’s primary objectives. In 2012, the Institute for Latin American Studies will thus award the Friedrich Katz Dissertation Prize to outstanding dissertations with an interdisciplinary focus.
Named after the renowned historian Friedrich Katz (1927-2010), the award is aimed at doctoral students in the disciplines of Cultural and Social Anthropology, History, Literatures and Cultures of Latin America, Political Science, Sociology and Economics. Two prizes will be awarded in the amount of 1,500 euros and 1,000 euros, respectively.
Outstanding doctoral dissertations may be submitted that have been supervised at LAI and have been completed no longer than two years prior to the deadline. Dissertations with the rating of magna cum laude can only be submitted with a recommendation from a relevant expert.
The application deadline is May 15, 2012. Each application should contain the following documentation:
- Cover letter
- 2 copies of dissertation
- 2 copies of both recommendations
- Dissertation summary (5 pages)
- Doctoral certificate or proof of completion of the doctorate (copy)
