Are we old? This question prompts reflection and debate, not seeking a dichotomous answer. Instead, it opens the possibility of analyzing what occurs in San Cristóbal society regarding women's conceptions of old age.

My interest as an anthropologist involves analyzing the phenomenon of old age and contributing to the debate on its meaning through an ethnographic approach that considers marriage, religiosity, and education as central themes.

The methodological proposal articulates the life course approach with feminist critical gerontology to understand the experiences of old age among women in San Cristóbal from a gendered, temporal, relational, and critical perspective. This articulation stems from the recognition that old age is not an isolated stage of existence but rather the result of trajectories constructed over time within specific historical, social, and cultural contexts. The life course provides a methodological tool for reconstructing participants' life trajectories, identifying transitions, turning points, significant relationships, and historical contexts that have shaped their experiences. For its part, critical feminist gerontology offers an analytical perspective oriented toward interpreting these trajectories through the lens of gender relations and structural inequalities. This approach allows for an analysis of how gender mandates, caregiving responsibilities, and inequalities in access to material and symbolic resources influence women's experiences of aging. Consequently, old age is no longer understood solely as an individual biographical process but is analyzed as a socially constructed experience shaped by power relations and interacting with women's aspirations about their lives and about new ways of researching ald age.
