Project: "Luxury and fascination: the reconfiguration of trade routes with 'Orient' and the projection of imperial futures during early globalization (XVI and XVII centuries)"

During the XVI and XVII centuries, European and American orientalist perceptions of 'Orient', specifically the Middle East, had an impact in the mercantile and imperial expansion of Iberian monarchies. During early globalization, these orientalist perceptions merged with European perceptions of wealth and luxury and influenced the European fantasies’ aspirations of future, which were projected in the reconfiguration of sea routes as well as in European enterprises to control the circulation of Asian and American global goods, including products from the Middle East.
