On 22 May 2026, Andrea Garcés Farfán successfully completed her doctoral studies at the Institute of Latin American Studies at Freie Universität in the field of Latin American Literatures and Cultures with the defence of her dissertation on the topic ‘Aguas áridas: Reescrituras del desierto en la literatura latinoamericana contemporánea’. The thesis emerged within the DFG-funded International Research Training Group “Temporalities of Future in Latin America. Dynamics of Aspiration and Anticipation”.

The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Dr Susanne Klengel and Jun.Prof. Mariana Simoni (Freie Universität Berlin).
