Immigration Enforcement across the World: Drivers and Consequences of Cross-Country Variation in Deportation Risks
Student Assistant (m/f/d) 41 hours/month limited to 1 year reference code: DEPRISK_E
Although the number of migrants who are being returned against their will is of considerable size for many countries, little quantitative research has assessed selective deportation practices, dynamics in deportation regimes over time, or the consequences that the inflow of deportees has in migrants’ countries of origin. The goal of the research project “Immigration Enforcement across the World: Drivers and Consequences of Cross-Country-Variation in Deportation Risks” funded by Fritz Thyssen Foundation is to assemble the first country-by-country database on deportations from administrative sources in host countries in order to unpack aggregate patterns and mechanisms related to the political economy of deportation regimes in host countries as well as their consequences in migrants’ countries of origin. The project is funded for two years, with possibility of extension for an additional year.
Support the principal investigator as well as the research associate in collecting data from a variety of country-level sources on deportation practices, from all major destination and transit countries; support with cleaning and organizing of data for statistical analysis; evaluate country reports and data sources on deportation practices.
Interest in working with quantitative data; interest in migration topics; good writing skills in English; mastering of additional languages is an asset (e.g. German and/or Arabic, but others are also welcomed); ability to be organized and detail-oriented.
Applications should be sent by e-mail, together with significant documents, indicating the reference code, in PDF format (preferably as one document) to Mr. Dr. Christian Ambrosius: firstname.lastname@example.org or postal to
