PhD Student Scholarships for Field Research in Developing Countries

2nd Call for Applications - 2014

We invite PhD Students enrolled at universities in the European union to submit applications to the "University Meets Microfinance" (UMM) Scholarships Program for ongoing or planned field research on financial inclusion topics.


UMM Scholarships Program for Field Research:

Scholarships of up to 1,500 EUR are granted to PhD Students enrolled at universities in the European Union who are currently conducting or plan to conduct field research in developing countries. The scholarships are granted to cover travel and/or accommodation expenses during the field experience.

Each application is evaluated by a professor and a practitioner. The final score is the average of the two evaluations. Selected participants are informed four to six weeks after the submission deadline.

Depending on the research topic, outstanding applications might be invited to share the results of their research during a UMM workshop or public event, or in UMM institutional communication materials (e.g.: newsletter, website).

Initiated in 2009 by PlaNet Finance and Freie Universität Berlin, University Meets Microfinance (UMM) is a European initiative which fosters cooperation between universities, students in Europe and microfinance practitioners to contribute to microfinance innovation and education for development. UMM is active in domains such as microfinance education, microfinance research, information capitalization, professional exchange and dissemination of information. All UMM activities are carried out under the umbrella of the European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP) in the frame of the e-MFP UMM Action Group.
