Visiting researcher from Santiago de Chile

From 8 January to 6 February, the LAI's political science division will host Dr Simón Escoffier, an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago). Simón has researched on urban mobilization, political clientelism, local government, and right-wing civil society. During his research visit at the Freie Universität Berlin, he will be working on a new research project exploring environmental mobilization against global warming with a comparative lens. He will also present his recent book, entitled “Mobilizing at the Urban Margins: Citizenship and Patronage Politics in Post-Dictatorial Chile” (Cambridge University Press, 2023), at the LAI's social sciences colloquium on 17 January, and will give a talk on 1 February about “The Thin Line Between Politics and Illegality in Chile's Protests” at the Criminality, State and Law Seminar at the Otto Suhr Institute of Political Science.
