Report on the 3rd Latin American Graduate Conference about Margins in Latin American Studies

The 3rd Latin American Graduate Conference Margins in Latin American Studies took place from 17. - 18. June 2024 at the University of Oxford, in the Radcliffe Humanities Building. This academic event brought together participants from the ILAG Network, including members from the Institute for Latin American Studies of Freie Universität Berlin and the Latin American Centre of the University of Oxford, as well as other master's and PhD students from various institutions such as the University of Padua, the University of Cambridge, and EHESS Paris.

Over the course of two days, the conference featured presentations spanning multiple disciplines within the social sciences and humanities. The discussions revolved around the theme of marginality in Latin America, approached from diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives. The breadth of topics and analytical frameworks contributed to a rich and interdisciplinary dialogue.

The keynote speakers of the conference were Professor Simón Escoffier and Professor María del Pilar del Blanco, who presented her outstanding research about photography and humanism at the colonial margins in Puerto Rico to open the conference.

Beyond the academic exchange, the conference provided an opportunity for the creation of new connections among students and researchers from the Institute for Latin American Studies of Freie Universität Berlin and the Latin American Centre of the University of Oxford. Additionally, it strengthened existing ties among the members of the ILAG Network, fostering further collaboration among early career researchers in the field of Latin American studies.
