Internationales Graduiertenkolleg "Zwischen Räumen"
The International Research Training Group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) "Between Spaces. Movements, Actors and Representations of Globalisation" opens up new perspectives for research on globalisation in the social and cultural sciences. Through dialogue between disciplines and different academic traditions in Germany and Mexico, the research and study programme contributes to a transnational and interdisciplinary field of research. The research group's work focuses on movements between different world regions and the new spaces they open up in historical and current phases of globalisation.
The research focus established in 2009 between academic institutions in Germany and Mexico with the guiding theme "Between Spaces" has made innovative contributions to globalisation research through the analysis of the three historical globalisation thrusts: studies of the colonial period, from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and contemporary history. In the second funding period from 2014 to 2018, the IGK further developed its profile: by specifying the categorisation of the investigated interspaces, by changing perspectives between the analysed spaces and by incorporating new theoretical and methodological approaches as well as research topics.
