What language entry requirements do I need to consider when applying?

Applicants who have not obtained their university degree at an educational institution where Spanish or Portuguese is the language of instruction must provide proof of knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese at the level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (GER/ CEFR) or equivalent.

Important: Proof must be provided in a transcript or in the form of a language certificate, which is awarded after successfully passing a language test. The proof must explicitly state that the acquired knowledge corresponds to the completed level B2 GER/ CEFR. Affidavits or proof of residence in a Spanish or Portuguese-speaking country will not be considered. Proof of knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish must also be provided for applicants who have grown up bilingually or are native speakers if they are applying with a German university degree or a German university entrance qualification. The corresponding university entrance qualification (teaching in Spanish or Portuguese)/ proof of completed studies in Spanish or Portuguese, e.g. at a university in Latin America, is considered proof of language proficiency at level B2 GER/ CEFR.

Applicants who have obtained their undergraduate degree abroad from a university (or equivalent institution) where the language of instruction is not German must provide evidence of German language skills at level B2 of the GER/ CERF.

Proof of English knowledge is not required for the Master in Interdisciplinary Latin American Studies.
