Competence aims:

• knowledge of historical literary developments as well as of theoretical literary and cultural discussions in Latin America
• ability to discuss and analyze chosen topic areas from the perspective of literary and cultural studies
• knowledge regarding the assessment of the state of research on a given subject
• conveyance of consolidated knowledge in view of textual and cultural-semiotic theories and methods and their application to literary representations as well as on further cultural semiotic systems
• ability to research independently bearing in mind current research debates and individual epistemic interests, i.e. to develop literary and cultural queries, to select suitable analytical perspectives to develop full-fledged arguments to explain and present the process and results of the completed research

Learning content:

• conveyance of an exemplary overview of topical issues, of the characteristics of the current research discussion, of theoretical backgrounds and the various possible procedures for independently dealing with a complex topic in literary and/or cultural studies

• ability to create full-fledged interpretations and analyses of literary texts as well as further forms of cultural representations using a particular query as well as to translate these into a small research project while simultaneously reappraising the current state of research
• conveyance of presentation techniques as well as the composition of academic tests (reviews, term paper)
