Module K2: Formation of Latin America

Competence aims:

  • well-founded knowledge of the historical formation of Latin America
  • knowledge of the essential approaches to interpretation, theories as well as exemplary research approaches to Latin American development from the pre-Columbian eras to the colonial and state and nation-building periods to the present
  • ability to conduct process-oriented research using a critical approach to handling sources and representations
  • competence in academic research and presentation
  • inclusion of historical knowledge in decision-making processes

Learning content:

  • approaches to interpretation as well as theory on Latin American development from the pre-Columbian eras to the colonial and state and nation-building periods to the present, taking into particular consideration cultural dynamics, socio-economic transformations and gender specific aspects in their respective historical context
  • Discussion of the exemplary approaches in social and cultural studies, and research in cultural anthropology
