The DFG project "Football as a Space of Belonging: Amateur Football Teams of Latin American Migrants in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo" investigated the emergence of spaces of belonging in the context of migration and amateur soccer. This was examined ethnographically using the example of amateur soccer teams of Peruvian and Bolivian migrants in the Brazilian metropolises of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The social meaning of soccer as an everyday transcultural practice has been analyzed. Special attention was paid to gender differences between female and male amateur soccer teams. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Stephanie Schütze, the project analyzed which transcultural and gender-specific appropriation strategies migrant amateur soccer players form to shape spaces of belonging (duration 2017-2022).
