Forced Migration and Organized Violence (ForMOVE) is a joint research project between the Faculty of Social Science at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the Institute for Latin American Studies (LAI) at Freie Universität Berlin. It will run from summer 2019 to summer 2022.

The DFG funded project will compare and contrast forms of forced migration in its interrelation with organized violence. The project follows a transnational focus and comparison between the two transit countries Turkey and Mexico, respectively the two regions of Europe and the Americas.

It will employ diverse quantitative and qualitative methods such as ethnographic visits to immigrant shelters and organizations, narrative biographical interviews with migrants, and the conduction of a standardized longitudinal survey.

Our interdisciplinary and international team consists of researchers from Freie Universität Berlin and Ruhr-Universität Bochum. The team members based at the Institute for Latin American Studies of the Freie Universität Berlin work mainly about Mexico as a transit country whereas the team members of the Faculty of Social Science of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum focus on Turkey.
