Henrique Cabrero, director of the Mexican national science council CONACYT, and José Luis Morán, president of the Mexican Academy of Science, during a ceremony awarded Stefan Rinke, historian at the Institute for Latin American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, the José Antonio Alzate research award. In attendance of the German ambassador to Mexico, Viktor Elbling, Cabrero and Morán, an alumnus of Freie Universität Berlin, emphasized the significance of the German-Mexican academic relations and recognized Rinke’s accomplishments. Rinke received the award in recognition of his scientific life’s work and his contributions as a leading historian in Latin American studies. In his acceptance speech, Rinke highlighted the importance of the first and only German-Mexican research training group “Between Spaces. Movements, Actors and Representations of Globalisation”, which played a substantial role for the flourishing bilateral relations and dedicated the award to all the participating colleagues.
