Welche Rolle spielen Biokraftstoffe in der Energiewende? Können sie einen Beitrag leisten, fossile Kraftstoff- und Energiesysteme sozial-ökologisch zu transformieren? Oder führen sie im Gegenteil zu neuen sozialen und ökologischen Problemen? Wissenschaft, Politik und Gesellschaft streiten seit Langem über diese Fragen, nun scheint die Zukunft der Biokraftstoffe an einem Scheidepunkt angekommen zu sein. Neue Antworten auf die vielfältigen Widersprüche rund um Biokraftstoffe hat die vom BMBF geförderte Forschungsgruppe „Fair-Fuels? Zwischen Sackgasse und Energiewende: Eine sozial-ökologische Mehrebenenanalyse transnationaler Biokraftstoffpolitik“ gesucht und stellt nun die Ergebnisse der vierjährigen interdisziplinären Forschungsarbeiten vor, u.a. aus den Weltregionen Europa, Lateinamerika und Afrika.

Gemeinsam mit Expert/innen aus Wissenschaft, Politik, Wirtschaft und einer interessierten Fachöffentlichkeit werden die Kontroversen und Perspektiven der Biokraftstoffe diskutiert. Weitere Informationen und Anmeldung

FIFA World Cups, like the Olympic Games, have been categorized by scholars as 'mega-events' in that they are followed by hundreds of millions, if not billions of spectators around the globe. However, unlike the Olympics individual World Cups, let alone their overall history, have received comparatively little scholarly attention. No comprehensive history of any World Cup from 1930 to the present has yet been written. Yet, football and its most prominent tournament are constituent parts of mass culture and therefore ideal vehicles for the exploration of national and transnational questions of political, economic, social and cultural history. In bringing together experts from Europe, Africa and the Americas, this conference will explore a number of significant issues in football history.

Tagung “Rethinking the Auslandsdeutsche: Respatializing Historical Narrative”

This meeting will directly engage the diverse groups of Germanophones who successfully established German spaces in non-German places, and who contributed to the emergence of diverse, vibrant, and often interconnected German cultures in Europe and abroad from 1880 to 1930. In order to do that, we will bring together a collection of international scholars from different disciplines (history, sociology, political science, cultural anthropology) and from different career stages (from doctoral candidates to full professors) who have been working independently on the so-called Auslandsdeutsche in a truly global range of geographical locations. By engaging in a collective comparative analysis, our goal is to use these groups of Auslandsdeutsche to rethink the narratives that dominate so much of the historiography on this era of heightened political nationalism and rapid globalization.
