Tanja Wälty finished her doctoral thesis in Cultural Anthropology on November 16, 2016. The dissertation "Mujeres Rebeldes. Cuerpo, feminidad y agencia en el movimiento punk de la Ciudad de México" uses an intersectional perspective to focus on the articulation between gender and punk and the negotiations of difference in Mexico City’s punk movement. The research analyses if and how punk, with its anti-hierarchical, anti-capitalist and anarchic claim provides a space for women to subvert normative gender roles and develop new forms of cultural and political agency.
